I don’t generally watch awards shows. I find them too long, too boring and always cringeworthy. From the embarrassing speeches to the embarrassing behaviour…it’s just too much. Justin Bieber’s strange emotional performance, the “ladylike” behavior of Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus’ ridiculous outfit and Kanye declaring his bid for the presidency in 2020? Let’s just say that I’m glad I spent my evening watching four straight episodes of Orange is the New Black. Continue reading VMAs: Fashion Risks and Costumes Abound
If you have been reading my blog, you’ll know already of my tendency to harp on personal style. In a world full of fast-fashion and cookie-cutter “of-the-moment” looks, it’s truly a breath of fresh air to see an original and creative outfit.
As I sat watching the Bill Cunningham New York documentary last night, I wondered what happened to all of those cool people who only dressed for themselves, who didn’t care about labels and who truly viewed dressing as an art form. I am lucky enough to know a few of these types…and when I say a “few”, I mean a small few. Continue reading Truly Original Style at Afropunk Fest 2015

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of meeting up with Derly of Malachite + Elephant, an online beauty store specializing in ethical beauty, health and wellness. As I’m highly interested in all-natural, safe, ethical beauty products, I was thrilled to have Derly reach out me to review some of the beauty products her site carries!
In my research, I was pleased to find out that Malachite + Elephant adheres to a set of principles that really speak to me, such as offering ethically traded products, organic products free of carcinogens and harsh chemicals, cruelty-free with no animal by-products, little carbon footprint and eco-friendly…all socially responsible traits that we should all be aiming for. I was thrilled to be invited to a special breakfast event this morning to preview the Banana Republic Pre-Fall Collection. My sweet friend Marilou of 20 York Street extended the invite to me and I hopped at the chance to go.
I got up bright and early this morning to attend the 7:30am event and got a tour of the new collection and tried on just about each new piece. This collection features lots of blush pink colours, flowy fabrics, beautiful delicate prints and shots of army green and navy were punctuated throughout.
