Funny story: after finishing a 5K run after work, I realized that I’d forgotten my access pass to the office on my desk. So, no access to the showers for me. I berated myself as I climbed into my car while sweating buckets. Of course, I was meeting a couple of friends at an event in 30 minutes, so I resigned myself to the fact that A) I could either cancel or C) show up looking (and smelling) like a sweaty mess. I love haute couture. It’s fashion at its finest…true art. From Alexander McQueen to Dior, haute couture has proven to be an art form so beautiful and unique, that I often look at these creations in wonder while marvelling “How did they do that?” and “I’ve never seen fabric so beautiful!”
Beautiful haute couture designs by Iris van Herpen, a favourite of Lady Gaga’s
A head full of thick, lustrous, shiny hair is as exciting and drool-worthy to me as winning the Powerball Lottery. For as long as I can remember, gorgeous hair has been something that I value highly. I can’t help it. I will see a head full of gorgeous, bouncy curls, or thick, perfect blonde beach waves, or gorgeous natural kinks and something inside me wants to reach out and play with that hair! Inappropriate? Yes. Am I alone? No (maybe). Continue reading #BeautySpotlight Part 1: Leonor Greyl Paris Soin Naturel Du Cheveu (…And Best Beauty Find Of The Year)
During my trip to Paris in 2014, I popped into an opulent little shop on the Rue de Seine named Cire Trudon. Dark and moody, this little boutique’s walls were covered in rich black and gold wallpaper and displays made of black, lacquered wood. I stared in awe as the sales associate greeted me in the typical “laissez-faire” French attitude. Continue reading The Allure Of The Incredibly Expensive Candle
Happy New Year, All! 2016 is off to a great start already, and it’s only five days into the year.
Each December, I start thinking about New Year’s Resolutions that I want to set for myself. For a long time, I promised myself that I’d “overhaul my life” in the same boring ways such as promising to work out more, save more money, exercise more, eat less garbage and drink much less alcohol. I’d usually last about 2-3 weeks before reaching for that glass of rosé to wash down the man-sized New York Cherry Cheesecake slice I was gorging on. A few months ago, I treated myself to a new bag. Mama literally got brand new bag! What a thrill! After moving into our new house three years ago, my entire salary pretty much went into making our house a cozy home.
This year, the purse strings finally loosened up and I bought myself a bag that I had been dreaming of for years: the Louis Vuitton Monogram Petit Noé (pronounce “no-ay”). I really liked this bag’s shape, as it is very in style right now, yet incredibly classic. Furthermore, this is one of Louis Vuitton’s (LV) oldest styles and it has an interesting history…and I’m a sucker for history. Continue reading Mama Got a Brand New Bag: Louis Vuitton Petit Noé
The House of Balmain has just released a sneak peek of its Fall/Winter 2015 campaign featuring famous sister acts Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Gigi and Bella Hadid, and Joan and Erika Smalls (ashamed to say that I didn’t even know that Joan Smalls had a sister).
The campaign is super glitzy, very 80s and very Mario Sorrenti…the famous photographer who shot the campaign. Keep scrolling to see the gorgeous shots. Continue reading Sister Act! Balmain’s Newest Ad Campaign
So! You’ve finally saved up the several thousand dollars you need to buy your dream bag – a classic Chanel Flap Purse. Now, before you hand your money to the kind people at Chanel, have you done your research on what you are actually paying for? Continue reading Anatomy of a Chanel Bag
Last year, my in-laws went on an amazing cruise on the Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers in Europe. They sailed past wind-mill studded fields in Holland, ancient castles in Germany and saw the gorgeous Austrian vineyards of the Wachau Valley. I was amazed at their pictures of stunning locales including Slovakia and Hungary. Mental note: add this cruise to the travel bucket list. Continue reading Un Jour D’Hermès – My Spring Perfume Pick
I bought some really great beauty products this month that I want to share with you. Here goes!
First off, I have been chasing after Butter London’s The Black Knight nail polish since my trip to Toronto a few weeks ago. Finally snagged it as Nordstrom. It is a multi-coloured glitter polish with a black base. I achieved a nice opaque finish with three coats.
Sorry – I know the pics above don’t do this justice, so here is an amazing shot of the polish from the Ommorphia Beauty Bar blog. This is exactly how this polish looks under the sun:
Now, I actually bought this limited edition Guerlain Météorites Perles du Paradis a few months ago. I have been using it a lot lately as a finishing powder. It is so great, I had to review it. The pearls are pale pink, dark pink, lavender, silver, and champagne. I was worried when I finally received it as the pearls were pretty pale, but it’s gorgeous on and goes on very translucently. It leaves a subtle sparkle and best of all, smells completely amazing (violets).
I found this amazing Guerlain lipstick on a trip to Montréal last fall with my sister Alice. I didn’t buy it then because I tend to waffle over every single purchase I make – lol! I kept thinking about it though, so I picked it up the last time I was at Nordstrom. It is Guerlain Rouge Automatique Rouge d’Enfer (loose translation: Hell Fire!!) #121 – Strawberry Red. I get so many compliments on this red. It’s pretty moisturizing, lasts forever and like all Guerlain products, smells amazing. A+++
Here it is on – I paired it with Chanel Amber Foundation (discontinued – le sigh), MAC Raizin blush, MAC concealer and Diorshow Blackout mascara.
This is probably my favourite lipstick of all time, Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Antigone #60. It’s very sheer on me so I can put it on easily without a mirror, super moisturizing, and a really interesting shade of red. The pic does not do it justice. I would describe it as a red with a lot of rusty orange tones.
And lastly, I included this Donna Karan Cashmere Mist antiperspirant/deodorant that I picked up using points at Shoppers Drug Mart. I absolutely LOVE this stuff. It is pricey at $27, but smells beautiful. I generally hate all deodorants sold at drugstores because I don’t like the fragrances. I find them really cloying and synthetic-smelling. I personally never want to smell like Island Margarita, mainly because it conjures up memories of terrible bars that smell like stale booze. LOL! To each their own though. Donna Karan’s best-selling perfume, Cashmere Mist is very soft and has notes of lily of the valley, suede, bergamot, ylang ylang, sandalwood, amber, vanilla, orris, cedar, patchouli and musk. I find it smells “sexy”. LOVE IT.
So, that’s it for this month. Any favourites of yours you see on this list? Anything on your wishlists? Please share!
