2016 Colour of the Year: Tips To Add Rose Quartz & Serenity to your 2016 Beauty Regime

Hey guys! This is Trysh from Prairie Beauty Love and I’m really excited to be guest posting for Dominique as a part of the Canadian Beauty Bloggers Network! Our theme this month is Rose Quartz & Serenity, which are the two Pantone Colours Of The Year.

I have to admit, as a makeup junkie I was a little bit let down by the colours they picked this year, just because they can be a little bit difficult to move into your routine in a wearable way. And honestly, these really aren’t shades that are going to inspire me to invest in high end options. However, I went through my collection and did a little bit of thinking and I think I found some great ways that anyone can add a little bit of Rose Quartz & Serenity to their beauty routine.

Nail Polish

I feel like this is the obvious answer, especially for spring, for a couple of reasons. The biggest one is that anyone can wear these types of nail polish shades and they can look flattering and pretty. It can be a little bit difficult to find the right shade of pale pink for your skin tone and a really good formula, but once you find one that you like it’s the type of shade that’s really great for a lot of occasions. I also feel like a milky pink shade with a little bit of shimmer in it would be a great way to incorporate Rose Quartz in a very subtle, work appropriate way. For me, pale milky blue shades in a créme are one of my favorites for the spring and summer, especially because it’s one of those shades that tends to have really great formulas for some reason. I think that literally everyone can wear a baby blue nail polish and look great in it!

This is definitely the #1 way I will be incorporating these shades into my routine and I think the best way for people who are a little bit uncertain about putting baby pink and blue on their face can do it too.

EYES

• A pastel shade swept over the lid and grounded with brown, taupe, sienna or grey in the crease and outer corner is a great, wearable way to incorporate these types of shades.
• There are some great liquid eyeliners in pastel shades on the market recently that look really chic with a nude, slightly contoured lid.
• A pop of bright colour on the lower lashline is a great way to pull in a pink or a blue to an otherwise neutral eye look.

CHEEKS

• Pastel pink blush can be a little bit much for a lot of us, so I like to pair it with a deeper, warmer blush towards the backs of the cheeks and then just pop the pastel right on the apples for a little bit of brightness.
• My favorite way to wear pastels on the cheeks is by pulling in an iridescent, pink toned highlighter. I feel like this adds a lot of brightness and light to the face without actually adding too much colour.

LIPS

• Finding a pale pink lipstick that suits your skintone can be a little bit difficult, so definitely don’t rely on hand swatches when you’re choosing your shade. This is one instance where I think you need to see how it looks on the lips and works with your whole face, so if you can try it on – Do it!
• The best way, for me, to bring in pale pink, pastel blue, or even a combination of the two with a light lavender is to do it with a milk gloss.  You can wear these types of shades on their own or pair them with a lipstick to add a slightly different tone. I think that a gloss is the best way to make these types of shades work for you, and to customize them accordingly.

OVERALL

• I think subtlety is key when it comes to wearing pastels and keeping them looking adult and wearable.
• Ground your pastel shades with cool or warm neutrals to customize the look for your taste.
• Don’t necessarily go high end with these types of shades if they’re not something that you’re going to reach for often. For me, these are the types of shades that I tend to stick to drugstore options for.

So those are my personal tips for incorporating Rose Quartz & Serenity into my beauty routine. I hope this helped open up some options for how to use these shades, especially for those of you who, like me, weren’t really excited about the Colour Of The Year choices for 2016!
