Glowing, Hydrated Skin: Avène Eau Thermale Spring Water

Funny story: after finishing a 5K run after work, I realized that I’d forgotten my access pass to the office on my desk. So, no access to the showers for me. I berated myself as I climbed into my car while sweating buckets. Of course, I was meeting a couple of friends at an event in 30 minutes, so I resigned myself to the fact that A) I could either cancel or C) show up looking (and smelling) like a sweaty mess.

After some major sauna action, I hit my favourite secluded pool at Nordik Spa-Nature (Source:

That’s when a lightbulb went off in my head. Over the weekend, I had visited the gorgeous Nordik Spa-Nature in Chelsea, QC and left my “beach bag” in my car trunk. Within it was a clean towel, moisturizer and a can of Avène Eau Thermale Thermal Spring Water. I had packed the last item to keep my skin hydrated as I lounged in the sun by the Nordiks beautiful pools, and I’m so glad I did.

Well, while in the dark, dank parking garage of my office building, I made sure no one was around, sprayed myself with the Avène Thermal Spring Water, toweled off, applied some moisturizer, changed in my car covertly and I was on my way. YAY me! I had “MacGyvered” myself a shower. I can’t believe I’m writing this.

I really had to share how great this product is though. While lounging poolside at the spa, I sprayed myself continually and it really soothed my skin. It’s fantastic for sunburns also, and I chalk that up to the fact that this product has a low mineral content, therefore it does not dry out skin. It also improves skin texture due to its balanced calcium and magnesium ratio, and has a neutral pH balance of 7.5.

A little interesting fact about Avène: Avène is a small town in the South of France known for its Saint Odile Spring. Back in 1736, the Marquis de Rocozel’s horse, afflicted with a severe skin disease, began to drink from and bathe in the Saint Odile Spring. Its skin soon cleared up and its coat became glossy and gorgeous.  The Marquis recognized the spring’s healing properties and soon opened a facility at the site and began treating those with burns, atopic dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis. The rest is history.

Those who suffer from dry itchy skin can really benefit from a quick spray of this thermal water. I found it really provided relief during the winter when the skin on my legs became dry and itchy due to indoor heating.

Another great use for this product? Keeping your face moist and hydrated during flights. I packed mini versions of Avène Thermal Spring Water during my flight to BC last summer and my skin glowed. In addition, I also use it as a makeup setting spray. It takes away the flat dullness that pressed powders give you and replaces it with a dewy finish.

So, is fancy water in a can worth it? I say so. At $18.50, it’s cheaper than a facial!

Have you used Avène Thermal Spring Water? How did you like it? Please share your experience in the comments! I personally love this top-rated French skin care line. It boasts one of the best sunscreens on the market: Mineral Light Hydrating Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50. You can find Avène products online or at Shoppers Drug Mart.

  1. I love Avene Thermal Water!! I use it every night after cleansing and before moisturizing. It is a staple in my skincare routine. In the summer it’s also super refreshing if you keep it stored in the fridge. 😊

  2. Sounds like something I need t try. We are going to Central America in the fall, so I bet this would come in handy. BTW-thanks for the comment on my DIY nails. I somehow deleted it. The Nordic spa looks fabulous!
